When her older brother died suddenly, Sandra Walker began the newspaper carrier project as a way to honor his memory, since as a youngster he had delivered the Mount Vernon Daily News in Ohio. Discovering the rich history of the paperboy, Sandra expanded the project beyond the Northwest, interviewing hundreds of former paperboys, and girls, across America. As a teacher and counselor, she understood and was fascinated by the rowdiness and determination of these energetic children.
Sandra has degrees in English and History from the University of Washington and degrees from the University of Michigan and The Ohio State University. She lives by Puget Sound with her husband, Terry, and is active in Northwest writer associations.
